DETROIT AUTORAMA
FEBRUARY 26-28, 2010
COBO Center
I and Stacy Major, Arkansas Pontiac Association member, just returned from the Motor City after attending the
Detroit Autorama held at the Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. It was a wonderful trip and I wanted to share our
experience with our fellow Arkansas cruisers!
The center is ranked as the 19th largest in the world totaling about 700,000 square feet of meeting/exhibit space.
The center hosted over 3,500 Autorama vehicles, motorized and non-motorized. As we entered the show, it was breathtaking to
see the beautiful sea of paint and chrome that covered the exhibit floors. The wide-range of automobiles included street rods,
street machine/muscle cars, customs, as well as an entire floor [downstairs] dedicated to rat rods and lead sleds!
Our hotel was next to the General Motors Building. General Motors sponsored the “Riddler Award, which was beautiful.
The Riddler winner also receives $10,000. During the awards ceremony the GM representative received a big laugh when
he identified himself as General Motors presenting the award and $10,000 check to a Ford recipient!
One of our goals was to hook-up with Rad Rides by Troy [Trepanier] who has agreed to attend
O’Reilly Auto Parts Auto Extravaganza in 2011. I cannot tell you how exciting it was to meet Troy, his mom and dad.
Troy’s display included George Poteet’s 1932 Ford Miller Hauler that was designed by Brian Stinger of Stingers Hot
Rod Shop in Indy with Troy assisting in the final paint and assembly of the truck. The truck debuted at this year’s
Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California and was awarded the 2010 AMBR Outstanding Class Award, 2010
Sweepstakes Award Custom, and 2010 Chip Foose Design Excellence Award! The Miller Hauler Truck is one of two that
Troy will have transported to Arkansas for the 2011 Auto Extravaganza!

1932 For Miller Hauler
Another goal for the show, and there were many, was to experience the atmosphere for the selection of the Great 8 [Riddler Award Finalists]
and of course the ever sought after “Riddler Award.” As I mentioned above, there were so many beautiful cars; however, the Great 8 vehicles
were absolutely the cream of the crop. We had the pleasure of meeting and talking to most of the Great 8 owners and of course to the Riddler
winner, Tammy Ray from Dahlonega, GA. The build team for her 1933 Ford Phaeton was T&T Customs, M&M Interiors, Chip Foose and Mike Curtis,
Alloway’s Rod Shop, Advanced Plating and Greening Automotive. We extended a personal invite to Tammy and her kick-awesome 33 Ford to attend
next year’s Auto Extravaganza!
I have inserted photos below of the Riddler Winner, as well as the Great 8 Finalists and I hope you enjoy them. Don’t forget Cruisin in the
Rock kick off scheduled for Friday, March 19th in the River Market District and Riverfront Park. Thanks for your continued support.
